Interview with Robin P. Waldrop

Robin P. Waldrop

About the Author

Robin P. Waldrop hails from Miami, but lives in Alabama with best friend, business partner, and husband John. She is a mother of five, grandmother of five, and owner of a variety of different animals.

When she’s not working at her business with her husband she’s found at her computer where she breathes life into all the wonderful characters that are born from her vivid imagination.

She is an award winning author who enjoys writing edgy YA paranormal/Urban Fantasy, and FBI suspense/thriller novels and short stories. Always a voracious reader with an unapologetic television addiction, Robin still searches for the perfect cup of coffee.

When did you first decide you wanted to write?

I don’t think I ever decided “I wanted to write.” I think writing chose me. And that didn’t happen until a few short years ago. At first, I fought it with every ounce of my being. Eventually I gave in, started writing my first novel, and fell in love. I mean, where else do you get to choose what path each character takes? Well, that’s not completely true. My characters tend to dictate to me which way they want to go. Sometimes I fight them, but they always win.

Did you get nervous the first time you put your work out there?

Absolutely! I actually released a suspense/thriller novel in such a hurry, it bombed. I thought I could skip a few steps and no one would notice. HA! I will never make that mistake again. I learned a great deal of valuable information about the writing/editing process and applied it to my new novel, Ties To The Blood Moon, and it is doing quite well.

Do you prefer fame or fortune?

Realistically? Fortune. I would be lying if I said anything else. I don’t, however, want fortune for the reasons most do. My reasoning is if I could make enough money, I would be able to quit my other job and write full time. That’s all I want.

What is your favorite genre to write?

YA paranormal/ fantasy hands down! Originally, it was adult suspense/thriller until someone gave me a YA/ urban fantasy novel and I was instantly hooked. I might write other things, but they would all definitely be YA.

What is your favorite genre to read?

See above answer … lol!

Do you have a favorite author?

I have several. Stephen King is el’ numero uno!

Is there something you want to write about, that you haven’t yet?

Yes. Zombies and witches. Not necessarily together, but I already have stories lined up for both. I’m actually starting a zombies series when I finish my current series.

What is one silly fact about you?

I am addicted to coffee and Fruit Loops. I take a Ziploc baggie of Fruit Loops and a thermos of coffee everywhere I go.

Do you have a favorite character you have written so far?

I do. Genevieve Lebreck is the protagonist in the Ties series and she is an awesome, tough-as-nails, teenager.

Does that reflect anyone you know?

Yes, sort of. She is a mixture of my four daughters.

Are you more scared of spiders or snakes?

BOTH! I believe there is only two good kinds of spiders and snakes. Dead, and unborn.

Favorite Candy?

Dove chocolate.

Spaghetti or Lasagna and why?

Spaghetti. I am Italian and it was always a staple around my house. I know people think I should be tired of it by now, but I’m not. I still love it to this day.

Anything you want to say to the aspiring writers reading the blog??

Never stop reading. A good writer must read. And also never give up on your dream. Regardless of what anyone tells you, you have to keep going.

Thanks for being here today Robin!
