Interview with Kristi Worrell
Kristi Worrell
Hi, Emily! Thank you so much for this opportunity to hang out with you and tell you a little about myself. It’s people like you that help us authors reach the top. Your time and efforts are very much appreciated. I hope I answer your questions accurately. I’m a bit odd like Johnny Depp so my replies may frighten, annoy, or startle some. I apologize now if I offend anyone. Being a writer is like having multiple voices within you. Sometimes one is stronger than the other. Who knows which voice will be the loudest during our interview!
“Pain shattered her heart into a million tiny fragments leaving her breathless with an odd echo of screams within her head. ” – Shade’s Loss
Eventually. I do tread into the fantasy and horror area from time to time. My books are not just one genre really. They are full of action, love, blood and guts, and of course paranormal creatures. Sometimes my stories are set in the midst of an apocalypse. I do want to write about fairies shortly though and elves… I have this urge to write some erotica as well. Most of my books are YA and include adult scenarios but they don’t fall into the erotica category.
Here are some questions you can choose to answer! Please include
links, a picture of you, and book covers, as well as trailers!!
What’s your favorite thing about the writing process?
I love getting into a groove and letting the words pass from my mind to the keys and not knowing what I will write until it’s before me on the screen. It’s usually relaxing and hypnotic. I fade into this world I’m creating and become one with the main character if it’s female. I usually listen to music and that makes me more passionate. My best writing comes when I am listening to my favorite bands. I have been known to get almost 10K words in under five hours, but only when the words are ready to be shared. Sometimes I stumble but so far I been lucky and have not had writer’s block…
Three facts about you?
I wear glasses when I feel like it, even though I’m supposed to ALL the time. I fell in love many times. Hmm, and reading is better than writing for me even though being an author is my ultimate dream.
Pick one book that is your all time favorite?
Vampire Academy Series but out of all of them I say the last book… Last Sacrifice. Rose and I are a lot alike. We even think the same, if that’s possible. We see things the same way. We are loyal, strong, passionate, a fighter, and when it comes down to it we always sacrifice ourselves for others. We stumble from time to time but get back up swinging. When we love it’s with our whole heart. We choose men that are our equals yet so much more. They have to be able to handle our snarky attitude and dominating tendencies. I love a good verbal throw down from time to time. Rose seems to as well. No matter how dark things get in our lives we keep fighting. We are survivors. We take the bad with the good and try to use it to our advantage. We also surprise ourselves at how much we can change. Like I said, I feel like Rose and I are the same kind of people. I can totally picture myself in her shoes…
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
Honestly I am an Introvert. I really couldn’t explain why other than you can’t read when you have someone next to you distracting you, lol. I was a goth in high school. I went my own way, which was usually down the road less traveled. I prefer quiet, empty rooms to loud and chaotic ones. I do enjoy socializing but there is so much more to gain when you do things all alone. I find the voices within me are enough to keep me company most days. They get so demanding and loud that I have to run and hide for a bit just so I can breath. People are emotional creatures too so it’s like roller coaster when I’m around people. Animals are just loving and loyal, they don’t try and change you or judge you. Even though I could never be a secluded hermit. Not with all the books in the world.
Favorites:
Muppet – Beaker was a freaking hoot. I loved him…
Cartoon growing up- Well, there were several. Not many of them I can remember though. One was the Winnie the Pooh series. Another was Fraggle Rock and Smurfs. I loved Saturdays when I was a kid.
Color- Purple is so awesome especially when paired with black.
Type of Monster- Vampire of course…
Do you speed when you drive?
I used to then I was in a wreck that totaled my car. I wasn’t speeding at the time but the woman who hit me was. She was doing at least sixty in a turning lane and riding in it for several blocks. She hit me so hard she bounced off me three times. Unfortunately she was within three light poles of the turn so the officer let her go… ever since then I tense when I have a car coming at me. Speeding is a thing of the past for me.
Guilty Pleasure?
Video games and reading lol. Those are my favorite things to do other than Facebook >.< I could read forever!
Your thoughts on Self Publishing.
Wow don’t get me started. Seriously there’s so much to say. Sometimes I hate it but after being with a minor publisher I realized solo is better until one of the big publishers accept me. There’s a lot of work involved. You can’t just write. Which I much prefer. I hate editing, publicity, publishing and the whole nine yards.
Your thoughts on Zombies.
Well they’re one of my top five fears but they are awesome and I plan to write a book with them. I love The Walking Dead. Some zombie movies are just so bad that they should never have been made. My favorite movie zombie wise is Resident Evil. I use to have nightmares when I watched that movie. In case you are wondering my other fears are spiders, death, heights, snakes and the end of the world… Told you I was odd…
Your favorite type of music- Rock mainly. Alternative and some metal. I love Manson, 3 Doors Down, Saving Abel, Nickelback, Skillet, Evanescence and Rob Zombie.
Your favorite color of Skittle- Blue I think. Sometimes red lol. I love fruity stuff.
Your favorite memory- I have many but one would be when I finally saw the cover to my book An Angels Ascent. Having published it and seeing that was something I’ll never forget.
Listening to the rain and light thunder, under a cozy blanket, next to my cats, with a glass of hot green and mint tea in one hand and a good vampire romance in the other. That is heaven… I can imagine me building a little stone and log cabin surrounded by woods and water. Inside I’m in my favorite spot by a window reading. I look out as twilight sets upon me and my cats, Loki and Gizmo. We yawn and get ultra comfy before we open a good book.
Tell us what you are working on now!
Several projects really. Two are events that I plan for October, the All Hallow’s Eve Masquerade and My Birthday Book Release Party. I also have a few books I’m writing. One is with a fellow author and the first book of the short story saga should be out by Christmas or New Years at the latest. It’s a secret so I can’t tell you anymore about that.I have an anthology just about complete. I’m working on book two to Shade’s Loss and An Angels Ascent, in my spare time, which should be out sometime this winter. My daughter and I also plan to publish a children’s book by spring sometime. She wrote it but I get to add my touch and edit it. I also started a website which will be up by March I hope at the latest. It’s an idea I have for literary lovers like myself. If you visit my pages and blog you’ll find more info on all of this. Last but not least I’m revising Shade’s Loss and An Angels Ascent. Shade’s Loss will have a new cover and all. You will still be able to get the old one but I had some misunderstandings with my editor and so I want to go back and tweak them a little.
