Author of Blindsighted Wanderer and My Tragic Silence, soon to be published by Darkest Night.
What’s your favorite thing about the writing process?
Looking up from my computer for the first time when I start a new novel, and seeing a magical forest or a snowy street instead of my living room. I need to feel as though I’m inside the story. The actual writing doesn’t actually take me too long, but I’ll prepare and research as much as I can before I start properly so it can just flow like a movie. I love having a first look at where my imagination’s going to be living for the next few months and getting excited about what I’m going to discover.
Three facts about you?
1. I’m a 2nd Dan black belt in Shotokan karate.
2. I’m related to someone who sailed on RMS Titanic.
3. I only have one canine tooth, so I’d make a rubbish vampire.
Do you believe in UFOs?
Yes. Never seen one but you can always hope!
What was your favorite cartoon growing up?
The Raggy Dolls. I loved how it was all about how it’s okay to be different. They just don’t make them like they used to!
Would you rather have fame or fortune?
Either would be nice, but I’m just glad my stories have managed to make it into the world. If people enjoy reading them as I enjoy writing them, that’s fame and fortune enough.
Pick one book that is your all time favorite?
Any from the Chronicles of Ancient Darkness by Michelle Paver, or Northern Lights by Philip Pullman.
Embarrassing guilty pleasure?
I’m not that embarrassed about it, but I still adore Disney films and know the majority of them – songs and dialogue – by heart.
Are you an introvert or an extrovert?
I’d say an introvert, but it depends what the situation is, really. And how much sugar I might have had.
Favorites:
Muppet – Animal.
Color- Blue.
Type of Monster- Vampire, without question.
Do you speed when you drive?
I’m learning to drive at the moment, so I try not to!
Your thoughts on Self Publishing.
I think it’s alright. Of course you’re going to get some really rubbish novels, but absolute gold can show up as well. One of my favourite books is self-published and it has a proud place on my bookshelves.
Your thoughts on Zombies.
Pretty scary in Dawn of the Dead, pretty funny in Shaun of the Dead.
Do you believe in the Loch Ness Monster?
Of course. And faeries at the bottom of the garden. I don’t care how old I get, I’ll never stop believing in magic.
Are you a tweeter, a re-tweeter, or you couldn’t care less about Twitter?
Couldn’t care less. Facebook and Blogger is enough for me!
Would you rather sit on a porch with sweet tea {insert other beverage if tea isn’t your thing} or go hiking with a bottle of water and a smile?
Depending on the weather, I’d love doing both (although I’d swap the tea for a nice berry smoothie!).
Your favorite type of music
I’d probably have to say rock in general, but there honestly isn’t that much I don’t listen to. The only types I completely avoid are rap and blues.
Your favorite color of Skittle
The green ones.
Your favorite memory
I can’t pick just one… my earliest favourite is probably the times I spent in Greece when I was little.
Your favorite quote
“If I fall asleep with a pen in my hand, don’t remove it – I might be writing in my dreams.” – Terri Guillemets
Your favorite way to spend an evening
Either watching the sunset over the sea, or curled up with my cat and a good book.
Tell us what you are working on now!
I’m almost halfway through the final book of a fantasy action-romance trilogy, set in a continent ruled by the Four Elements. It’s basically about a young Warrior who has to uphold peace while trying to stay alive and figure out his destiny.
Anything you would like to say to the aspiring authors reading this blog?
Believe in what you do. Believe in the world you create; believe in your characters, even if they get annoying and start acting like divas. Just fall into the book and let it take you on its journey. I think an author never creates a story, they just tell it. There will always be someone who’ll want to read a good tale, and if you believe in yours enough, nothing can stop you.
